Holiday Party -- On December 8th, we 'll be having our annual Holiday Celebration and Member Appreciation party at the Rockfish Valley Community Center in Afton, from 2 to 6 pm.
If you are a paid member and plan on attending --
please RSVP to email@example.com.
You are very welcome to bring your family as well. It will be fully catered with food, and adult beverages as well as some nice desserts. We will also start our food drive, so please bring non perishable items such as canned and dry boxed goods for the less fortunate. This will go through the end of the year, so you can also bring them to the jams.
Membership Renewals -- We are getting to the end of the year and that means it's time for you to renew your CVBS membership for 2020. We would love to have you renew and help us obtain new members. You can renew online at www.centralvablues.org or at and of our jam. We will have a full table set up at the December 8 Members Holiday party.
2020 CVBS Blues Festival -- We're excited to announce that the Fifth Annual CVBS Blues Festival has now been scheduled for June 13th, 2020 from 3-10PM,. We will be announcing the line- up sometime around the first of the year.
The CVBS is 501(c)(3) charitable organization run entirely by volunteers
(and we could use a few more).
Those of us who are involved with the Central VA Blues Society get a lot of fun and satisfaction out of what we do. We aren’t paid but that’s OK because the greatest reward is knowing we're keeping the blues alive. And we get to hang out with some pretty nice people. We also get to hear a lot of good music. And we love to get the feedback and kind words from our fellow blues lovers in Central Virginia who enjoy our events or seeing the smiles on people's faces (and maybe even getting some high fives) when they discover how much fun we have playing and listening to the blues. Over the years we’ve put on countless jams, festivals, competitions, workshops, and charitable assistance to other nonprofits. And we've had a blast doing it.
So what’s the catch? Well, we do collect dues which are pretty small considering all the benefit we provide -- only $25 a year (and that includes a t-shirt). We also need to involve our established volunteers on an ongoing basis, while also recruiting new blood to make sure our work continues. Some of the folks who’ve been putting on our jams or working our other events have been doing it monthly or more often for years, and they can be forgiven if they feel every once in a while like they're burning out . We also have a president who’s worked very hard for nearly 8 years -- Andy Burdetsky -- but he'll be stepping down next year and we need to find a replacement.
We have lots of activities where we can use YOUR time and talent. If you want to be president or maybe just keep the jams going, we can use YOU. The newsletter and this webpage need some love and attention. Just a couple of hours a month from more of our members will help us keep the organization going. We have a strong board of directors and some great volunteers but there’s always room for more shoulders at the wheel.
If you're curious about what's involved in maintaining the success of a blues society, you should talk to one of our volunteers or board members when you see him or her at a CVBS event. You can also read about blues societies in general on the Blues Foundation website. If you're interested in working with us, please contact one of the board members or send an email to firstname.lastname@example.org. Thank you!
