CVBS Free Concert Raises Funds to Aid Staunton Flood Victims

The Central Virginia Blues Society was pleased and excited to have organized a free concert on October 17 to support the Community Foundation of the Central Blue Ridge's (CFCBR) effort to aid Staunton residents whose homes and belongings were affected by August 8 flash flood.  Pictured below is CFCBR Program Manager Mirian Burrows is show accepting a $1,200 check from CVBS, representing part of the money we were able to raise that day through the hard work and generous efforts of CVBS musicians.

We want to thank all of the CVBS musicians who donated their time and talent to make our October 17 flood relief effort a success, including -

  • Mojo Parker Band

  • Kiz Carter and Wave Milor

  • Low B Band (with special guest Alan Ponton)

  • Danny Goodson Band

  • Ken Farmer & the Authenticators

We also thank photographer Bill Reckert for taking so many great pictures of the event, only a few of which can be shown here.

And most importantly, we want to acknowledge the leadership of CVBS President Rick "King Gypsy" Sheeley and the our CVBS volunteers for setting up the event, along with the many friends and supporters who joined us to make the day such a wonderful success.

Our next CVBS Jam will take place January 10 at Glass House Winery.  We'll be be doing 3-1/2 to 4 hours of acoustic jamming.

During the event, we will be accepting food donations for Central Virginia Food Bank, so bring any non-perishable food items you can spare.

Here's the challenge to Jammers: This will be a "Back porch blues jam", acoustic guitars with a bass/cocktail drum set backup, 4-5 chairs in front, two mics.

Since this is an acoustic event, we'd like to give it an old school,  traditional feel by asking jammers to  play "early blues" or any song that can be interpreted in a "down-home" style; for reference think of those great "unplugged" sessions from MTV in the 80's and 90's. And please dress the part!  CVBS President Rick Sheeley will be in full Gypsy show clothes!

Finally, due to COVID restrictions, we'll need signups by Dec. 31st as we can only have 20-25 jammers perform due to mask and distancing restrictions. We'll leave it to the players to lineup whom they'd  like to play with and band mates are welcome of course! Be prepared to talk about your music and the history of the songs, let's be educational and entertaining!

Watch this space for word on our February Jam.
